Today @Uniswap Labs received a Wells notice from the SEC. I'm not surprised. Just annoyed, disappointed, and ready to fight. I am confident that the products we offer are legal and that our work is on the right side of history. But it's been clear for a while that rather than...

Despite SEC rhetoric that “most” tokens are securities, the reality is that tokens are just a digital file format The vast majority of tokens traded on Uniswap are definitively not securities, just like most paper is not stock certificates They are stablecoins, community...

This is the big one folks. Massive escalation by the SEC and whitehouse. Uniswap is a poster child for crypto decentralization - instead of celebrating @haydenzadams as a generational entrepreneur they're taking him to court. A war on crypto is a war on the internet. [image]

1/ Today's Wells notice against @Uniswap is disappointing, but is not unexpected from this SEC It's another abuse of power - unsurprising from an SEC that: Last month, a federal judge ruled committed a “gross abuse of power” by lying in court about a crypto project

When I tell you things, you should listen. The SEC is planning to sue Uniswap now. #Uniswap just received a Wells notice. “A Wells notice is a letter that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sends to people or firms at the conclusion of an SEC investigation that... …

Traders rushed to short $UNI after this news. Open Interest increased by ~15% due to these shorts. Usually these exit out at some point due to price not moving and/or starting to grind up. Especially as it's unlikely we'll hear anything about this news for a while. Tends to be...…

People saying the SEC going after Uniswap is stupid don't get the point. It is akin to local businesses paying “respect” to the local gang by paying protection money. They are sending a message, get in line or get your knees stomped out.

2/9 Uniswap Labs, is a software publisher. They publish open source code and an open source frontend. Unless this Wells Notice specifically relates to Uniswap X Routing (which even then is questionable) this is *absolutely* beyond the scope of the SEC.

Future @haydenzadams are already building in Dubai or Singapore, to be brutally honest. This is something the US gov't has truly dropped the ball on. The 2023-2024 cycle of crypto founders are already largely offshore. Now the US just has to pray we can fix this fast enough to...

Said it months ago and will say it again. Plenty of former SEC lawyers were credible hires. But that point has past. Those who remain engage in full on bad faith. The revolving door of cushy regulator jobs is done.

3/9 Further more, the SEC has had *YEARS* to provide guidance on these behaviors and chose not too. In fact, some of Uniswap's products are so old now, they are actually outside the statute of limitations for certain violations of the Act.

7/ @Uniswap products comply with US law We welcome sensible regulations for crypto - and clear rule of law that we expect in the US - not arbitrary enforcement and continued abuse of power @Uniswap Labs is prepared to fight against this abuse And we're confident we'll win

Uniswap has been fighting for the core principles of crypto since they launched. To me, they stand for the idea that immutable peer-to-peer financial technology is not only possible, but inevitable. That it can win. It's unfortunate that the SEC is forcing them to take that...

Uniswap is an upgrade to the financial system, whether the SEC recognizes it or not. I bought my first bitcoin in 2011, started BlackRock's crypto efforts in 2015 and left TradFi in 2021 to go all in on DeFi as COO of Uniswap Labs. I did that because I believe onchain markets...

@ErikVoorhees @haydenzadams There is in the US though. Lots of talent and companies leaving the US or refusing to build there because of the uncertainty. Which goes directly against one of the parts of the SECs mandate in fostering capital formation within the US markets.

Interesting case (SEC V Uniswap), they can reasonably argue both that $UNI is a security, and that Uniswap trades securities. What is a much trickier claim is the idea that Uniswap, Inc is reponsibile for / controls such trading. If uniswap (company) shuts down, in theory...
