Filing: Donald Trump's Truth Social lost $58M+ on $4.1M in revenue during 2023; Trump Media & Technology Group is valued at $7B+ after going public on March 26

- All of the company's revenue comes from advertising on Truth Social, per the disclosures.

Axios Dan Primack

Context & Ripple Effects

Trump Media entered public trading after a sharp early rally that briefly put its market capitalization at $13.5 billion, making the filing an early test of whether the operating business could support that market attention. The initial post-listing surge had already made the value of Donald Trump’s stake a central part of the story.

The numbers also established a baseline for later reporting: subsequent disclosures showed continued low quarterly revenue and operating losses, underscoring the gap between Truth Social’s advertising business and TMTG’s public-market valuation.

First-order effects

  • Investors now have a concrete operating benchmark—more than $58 million in 2023 losses against $4.1 million in revenue—to weigh against TMTG’s more than $7 billion valuation.
  • Truth Social’s revenue is entirely advertising-based, concentrating the company’s near-term monetization challenge in its ability to attract and retain advertising spend.

Second-order effects

  • The disclosure gives public-market traders a clearer basis to reassess the post-listing premium; the next day, shares fell 21%, according to coverage of the post-filing selloff.
  • A business dependent on advertising must demonstrate commercial demand rather than merely audience attention, raising the importance of its subsequent revenue disclosures for advertisers and investors alike.

Third-order effects

  • If operating results continue to lag the valuation, TMTG may become a prominent example of a politically resonant consumer platform whose market price is driven more by shareholder demand than current ad economics.
  • The case highlights a broader durability test for niche social platforms: whether a differentiated audience can produce sufficient commercial-intent density to sustain an advertising-led model.

The trend: TMTG is one data point in the widening separation between public-market valuations for attention-driven platforms and the slower task of building repeatable advertising revenue.

With a $7B+ valuation on $3.5M in revenue, Trump Media & Technology Group now has a higher multiple than every AI company

Simple points. Truth Social has roughly the same annual revenues as @TPM. (I am, very unfairly, not a billionaire.) it has roughly 20x the expenses. And it has close to no user base.

Truth Social vs. Reddit Truth Social - Revenue: $4.6 million - Market Cap: $9.7 billion - Monthly active users: 5 million Reddit - Revenue: $804 million - Market Cap: $11 billion - Daily active users: 73 million Make it make sense.

It's hilarious how Truth Social $DJT—which has close to zero revenues—is now worth $8.4bn, or 7% more than Twitter's valuation of $7.8bn. I wonder which pisses Musk off more: Twitter having a lower valuation than $DJT or Toyota $TM having outperformed $TSLA by 67% YTD. [image]

So if the reports I just read are accurate Truth Social is worth $8 Billion and X/Twitter is worth $10 Billion. Consider me skeptical.
