Solana memecoin SLERF raised $10M in a presale, hitting $1.7B in trading volume, but the developer claims to have mistakenly “burned” tokens set for an airdrop

“This is not a joke I really f****d up and im really sorry.  Was a simple mindless misclick when I was in the process of burning the the lp," the developer said

CoinDesk Shaurya Malwa

Context & Ripple Effects

SLERF’s episode illustrates how a Solana token can draw substantial attention before its distribution mechanics are settled. Later coverage of the ecosystem found that retail participants often absorb losses in a market marked by insider activity, rug pulls and sniping, including in Solana’s memecoin trading market.

The incident also belongs to a broader pattern in which irreversible on-chain actions turn operational errors into market events; Paxos later disclosed a mistaken PYUSD mint that it subsequently burned.

First-order effects

  • The intended SLERF airdrop is likely disrupted because the tokens allocated to it were burned, leaving presale participants without the distribution they expected.
  • The developer’s acknowledged misclick immediately raises execution and credibility risk around SLERF while trading activity is unusually elevated.

Second-order effects

  • Traders must reprice SLERF around uncertainty over supply, allocation and any possible response to the failed airdrop, increasing the risk of volatile, information-driven trading.
  • The event adds another cautionary reference point for Solana memecoin buyers, a group later shown to face uneven outcomes in the Libra memecoin episode.

Third-order effects

  • If high-profile launches continue to rely on single-party token operations, operational controls and verifiable distribution processes will become a key differentiator among memecoin projects.
  • The pattern points toward a market where rapid fundraising and trading can outpace governance and investor protections, leaving retail participants especially exposed when token mechanics fail.

The trend: Solana’s memecoin boom is showing how fast capital formation and on-chain irreversibility can amplify small operational mistakes into investor-risk events.

Unbelievable!😱 This guy made ~$3.02M in just 12 minutes by trading $SLERF! He spent 9,894 $SOL($1.98M) to buy 69.74M $SLERF immediately after opening trading. Then sold it for 25,001 $SOL($5M) within 12 minutes. Making 15,107 $SOL($3.02M) in just 12 minutes!... [image]

Guys I fucked up. I burned the LP and the tokens that were set aside for the airdrop. Mint authority is already revoked so I can not mint them. There is nothing I can do to fix this. I am so fucking sorry.

I initially tried to burn the LP using solana tools vercel and it wouldnt go through. So I went to sol incen and was clearing out the shitcoins people sent to the wallet and accidently burned them with the pile of other coins.

As No.1 trading markets for @Slerfsol, HTX have decided to donate all Slerf trading revenue on @HTX_Global and allocate it to everyone who participated in private sale on HTX, as well as donate some #HTX for Slerf's trading fee mining on https://htx.com/! User first!

So lots of you are going to wake up to mentions of a thing called Slerf. For those not in the crypto space (I follow it very loosely), I'm going to try to briefly summarize. It's wild. But basically a $1bn flash casino emerged in the night after someone hit a wrong button.

Amazing house! How could you afford it? “SLERF.” Excuse me? “SLERF.” This is a $3m mansion... and you bought it with... “SLERF.” What is that? “SLERF?” Nevermind.

Calling it now. Slerf burn is a marketing stunt. And well done actually. No way someone goes through the process and burns everything accidentally. Then has the balls to go on spaces with 10k people and play dumb for hours.

Ok guys, it's pretty clear this whole $slerf thing has been a psyop. Gets listed on exchanges the first day, and he gets “bailed out” by a bunch of companies. This is the opposite of you can't make this up, they totally made this all up. Clearly a marketing campaign.
