How the EFF, Techdirt, MuckRock, and DDoSecrets are pushing back against legal threats aiming to censor reports on Appin's alleged hacker-for-hire past

So, a couple months back we wrote about how Appin, an Indian company, had forced Reuters to remove an article that presented evidence of Appin's connections to “hack for hire” operations.  Appin demanded we remove it.  We will not do so.  —  https://www.techdirt.com/...

Appin may have succeeded in getting a few stories taken down, but the “Streisand Effect” is beginning to take hold. Anyone considering similar censorial antics should take note: They inevitably backfire by generating far more bad press than they prevent. https://www.wired.com/...

Now I understand a little more about why Reuters was honoring the legal ruling in India and yanked the story globally https://www.wired.com/...

Imagine the kind of power behind a pay-to-hack Indian firm named Appin, which got the likes of Reuters & Internet Archive to pull their story on this firm. Some secrets are apparently too sensitive for the weapon to be laid bare. Won't be surprised if guv dealings are exposed.
