    One state of the art chip fab costs $10 billion to $30 billion. Designing an advanced GPU costs $5 billion. The math seems difficult - not to mention the intellectual capital required.

    Bloomberg and others have reported Altman was trying to raise funds for an AI chip venture but the scope and manufacturing focus were unknown. (Personally, I figured OpenAI just wanted to design its own chip, like Microsoft, Google, AWS etc.)

    It'd probably require hundreds of billions of dollars from petrostate sovereign wealth funds, a decade of runway, massive construction projects and a ton of water, thousands of engineers during a shortage of them. And trust in this Altman guy. https://www.bloomberg.com/...
