    Tonight, Google began another round of needless layoffs. Our members and teammates work hard every day to build great products for our users, and the company cannot continue to fire our coworkers while making billions every quarter. We won't stop fighting until our jobs are safe!

    Damn, the tech job market just keeps getting worse and worse. In the past 30 days: - Etsy cut 11% - Duolingo cut 10% of contractors - Bolt cut 29% - Rumors that Netflix is cutting - Google reorg of 30k (unclear what cuts) - Unity cut 1.8k - Amazon cutting “several hundred”

    Layoffs at Alphabet have resumed. Can only imagine how tough it must be for workers to receive this news. If any affected workers would like to speak, my DMs are open.

    And for Google's next trick — killing off the Fitbit and Nest brands in place of Pixel everything.  They're already *so* close; may as well just seal the deal.

    Note, the founders of Fitbit and most of the upper-level team there are gone.  —  Google only bought the company four years ago.  Brand is probably dead at Google.  [embedded post]

    We will look at 2022 as the year employment growth at tech companies peaked. The '22/'23 “get fit” trend dovetailed right into '23 - '25 AI adoption, driving a massive increase in productivity. Upside: more profitable tech cos. Downside: less obvious + easy employment growth.
