Hackers post 1.67TB of Insomniac Games' internal data, including for an upcoming Wolverine game, HR files, Slack screenshots, and a Marvel-Sony X-Men agreement
The Rhysida ransomware gang publishes 98 per cent of leaked data minutes after the ransom deadline passes - Wolverine game files included.
Cyber Daily David Hollingworth
Context & Ripple Effects
The publication turns a ransomware demand into a lasting disclosure event: material spanning an unreleased Wolverine project, personnel records, internal communications and a Marvel-Sony agreement is now exposed rather than merely claimed stolen.
It follows Sony's September investigation into a separate ransomware breach claim and echoes the game-industry risk illustrated when CD Projekt reported a ransomware attack that could expose upcoming-game source code. The combination makes creative-roadmap and employee data protection a business-continuity issue, not just an IT concern.
First-order effects
- Insomniac and Sony must manage exposure of employee information, internal discussions and commercially sensitive terms alongside development materials for Wolverine.
- Rhysida's release removes much of the leverage inherent in a private ransom threat, while giving outsiders access to material that can shape scrutiny of Insomniac's plans and partnerships.
Second-order effects
- Sony and its studios face pressure to review access controls, incident response and the amount of sensitive production and HR information held in shared collaboration systems.
- The exposed Marvel-Sony agreement and Wolverine materials can weaken the information advantage normally attached to exclusive game content, making secrecy around release planning and licensing more costly to maintain.
Third-order effects
- If high-profile game-studio leaks continue, ransomware preparedness will increasingly be judged by a company's ability to contain publication of intellectual property, contracts and workforce data—not solely restore systems.
- The pattern supports a broader shift toward treating cyber controls as part of franchise and partner governance, particularly where a single breach can expose both talent data and licensed-content strategy.
The trend: Ransomware is evolving from system disruption into a data-publication threat that directly endangers game studios' franchises, partnerships and employees.

Feel sorry for everyone at Insomniac. Their output and quality is almost unrivalled in this industry and to now have - what could be - major surprises out there because of hackers sucks to see. Not to mention personal data. Nobody deserves this.

Yeah the insomniac leaks are awful, be careful out there. Their entire game project pipeline from now - 2035 is on the internet, Wolverine footage, various unannounced game scripts, internal & confidential info to do with Marvel eg. net shares. Worst of all, actual employee info

This Insomniac leak has made a lot of people very stressed and miserable right before the holidays, or required them to go back to work, as well as jeopardising future plans. Not that they give a shit but those responsible ought to be ashamed of themselves.

My heart goes out to the people affected by the Insomniac leaks, and a hearty f**k you to the people responsible. I've had to pay a service for the last 2 years to make sure no one messes with my personal data after my company was hacked in 2021. Stuff like that truly sucks.

My heart goes out to everyone at Insomniac today, and I hope everyone there is able to obtain some measure of security, fast. Fuck you to the hackers. Compromising hard-working people's security simply for a cash grab is despicable behaviour.

There's leaked footage of Wolverine and a lot of info from Insomniac which has popped up online. I'm not going to retweet the footage (you can find it if you try). But people are complaining it looks ‘bad’. Seriously, didn't people learn ANYTHING from GTA6?

Insomniac are one of my favourite game studios and all they've ever done is work hard to consistently give us exceptionally fun games to play. This leak feels so horribly malicious just for the sake of it. Nobody deserves this. The fans will always support @insomniacgames 💙

“We knew that developers making games like this would be an easy target. We were able to get the domain administrator within 20-25 minutes of hacking the network. Sony has launched an investigation, but it would be better in the backyard.” - Rhysida Fuck. Right. Off.

What happened to Insomniac is not a “leak;” it was a malicious blackmailing by hackers that dragged people's personal info and privacy into the mix. Every outlet, every influencer, using material procured by these hackers in their own “news” and “content” should be ashamed.

Leaks really suck. Already seeing “Wolverine looks mid” type comments. All WIP looks mid at points. Games take years to make bc they're a process of iteration, balance & collaboration. Bits of mid-project footage aren't a basis to judge a game. Feeling bad for Insomniac folks [im…
