Employees in one dept recalled a post-layoffs Q&A session where a department head was asked if leadership taking salary cuts to prevent layoffs had been considered, only to respond that Bungie was “not that type of company.” Iwata took more than 50% cut to save jobs in 2011 & 14

@jasonschreier @duckvalentine I feel like “even the most successful live-service games can't keep growing forever” is definitely true, but also, how the hell does Destiny grow when getting new players into the game is so nightmarishly convoluted?

a depressing read about the “soul-crushing” atmosphere inside Bungie at the moment. There are also fears of Sony taking full control over Bungie if the studio can't deliver on financial commitments 😬 https://www.ign.com/...

Yet again, another reminder that we can't talk about “Bungie” as a homogenous grouping anymore. There are the executives and the developers. That “Bungie Family” is clearly dead, publicly so, since the execs chose to lay off staff rather than dock a portion of their own pay.

“I'm angry. I'm upset. This isn't what I came here to do,” one person said. “It feels like many higher ups aren't listening to the data and are like, ‘We just need to win our fans back, they still like us.’ “No. They don't..” [image]

“If Bungie falls short of its revenue goals by too great an amount, Sony is allowed to dissolve the existing board and take full control of the company.”

Since the Bungie layoffs a month ago I've been talking with a number of the folks still at the company who all say morale has taken a nosedive. Benefits have been reduced or cut, DE&I clubs were hit hard, and leadership seems indifferent or even hostile. https://www.ign.com/...

Lots of sad and shocking details in this well-reported story about Bungie's latest cultural crisis by @duckvalentine. One theme behind this year's industry layoffs is that even the most successful live-service games can't keep growing forever https://www.ign.com/...

Bungie seems to be on the precipice of a h̵o̵s̵t̵i̵l̵e̵ ̵takeover by Sony. If they fail to meet targets, Sony will take over the board and run the company instead of Bungie. This is a must-read for Destiny fans. *Fixed it* https://www.ign.com/...
