Private equity firm Ethical Capital Partners, which acquired MindGeek in March 2023, rebrands the Pornhub owner as Aylo, seeking a “fresh start” after scandals

Thomas Barrabi / New York Post :

New York Post Thomas Barrabi

Context & Ripple Effects

The ownership change followed a period in which MindGeek’s leadership turned over after reporting on its handling of nonconsensual material, including the 2022 departures of its CEO and COO. Ethical Capital Partners then took control in the March 2023 acquisition.

The new name is therefore chiefly a corporate-reset step: it separates the operating company’s identity from the MindGeek brand while leaving Pornhub as the consumer-facing asset.

First-order effects

  • Ethical Capital Partners can present its portfolio company to employees, business counterparties and the public under the Aylo name rather than MindGeek.
  • Pornhub’s owner begins changing its corporate branding, but the reported move alone does not establish a change in platform operations or safety practices.

Second-order effects

  • Partners and counterparties evaluating the company will have to distinguish a brand reset from evidence of operational reform, especially given the earlier leadership fallout.
  • The separation between the corporate and consumer brands may make reputational management more central to Aylo’s relationships with advertisers, payment providers and other intermediaries.

Third-order effects

  • If ownership changes are paired with verifiable governance and safety improvements, distressed digital platforms may increasingly be repositioned through both new capital and new corporate identities; a name change alone is unlikely to resolve underlying trust issues.
  • The case highlights how platform value can depend on governance credibility as much as audience scale when controversial user-generated-content businesses change hands.

The trend: Private-equity owners of reputation-damaged internet platforms are increasingly treating governance credibility and corporate identity as linked parts of a turnaround.

The MindGeek Criminal Enterprise renamed itself “Aylo” yesterday because they were globally exposed for profiting from child rape and trafficking on P*rnhub. The website now says “Aylo” has been around since 2004-what kind of deceptive nonsense is this. Keep exposing them.
