Weird how when Chinese firms are sanctioned, there's a crowd that goes 'it'll backfire, China will try even harder'. When US firms are sanctioned, they go ‘disaster’. China bans Micron's products from key infrastructure over security risk via@FT https://www.ft.com/...

The products sold by Micron in China failed to pass the network security review, and the Chinese market has closed to Micron. Americans should have been prepared for this. They previously warned SK companies not to occupy the Chinese market vacated by Micron. [image]

This jumps right off the page: “The Micron review is the first investigation into foreign firms that was carried out by the cyberspace watchdog, which reports to a leadership group headed by President Xi Jinping.” As I was saying.... https://twitter.com/...

The Micron review was the first investigation into foreign cos carried out by Beijing's cybersecurity watchdog. It's a speedy one—less than 2 months after it's announced. The Micron ban applies to major Chinese cos, but impact could be broader. https://www.wsj.com/... via @WSJ

Beijing bars Idaho-based Micron from selling its chips to big companies in China as leaders leave the G-7, taking exactly the kind of ‘coercive’ step that the leaders said they will work together to combat. Via @Lingling_Wei https://www.wsj.com/...

China govt effectively banned the use of Micron Technology memory chips in critical infrastructure, just one more step in the Washington-Beijing decoupling process. Micron chips are commoditized, so this is a low-risk ban for China. (via @knowledge_vital) https://www.bloomberg.co…

This impacts the revenue by up to 11%, however out of all chipmakers, it is the one where the impact of a ban is the lowest. https://www.bloomberg.com/... https://twitter.com/... [image]

1/2 After years of playing defense, the Chinese have made their first major counterslap at the US in the latter's tech war against them. From Morgan in Singapore: “Well done, China. 🇨🇳 It's time America learned that two can play the same game.” https://www.scmp.com/... [image]

#TrendForce believes China's ban on Micron products won't alter the memory market's oversupply or landscape. Micron's dwindling footprint in China means a 10% revenue loss, spread among competitors, won't significantly affect the industry. @MicronTech https://twitter.com/...

Best performers on CSI 300 Index in past week are semiconductor stocks. Micron is down 6% overnight after Chinese ban; Koreans (Samsung and Hynix) up slightly. Is this a bluff, or can China do without US memory chips? [image]

Interesting to see what happens now, particularly the activity of the big Korean chipmakers in China - since they've reportedly been asked by the US not to actively fill the gaps left by US companies facing new restrictions https://www.ft.com/...
