Four years after Cory Doctorow's review of the original $999 Framework showed a modular laptop could be sleek as well as repairable, the company has kept proving the thesis: a $538 mainboard kit let 2021 owners move to 12th-Gen Intel without buying a new machine, and last year it added drop-in display, webcam, and Core Ultra mainboard upgrades.
