Scoop by @JeffHorwitz and me: Meta plans to offer FB and Insta users in Europe the ability to opt out of behavioral ads based on their activity in its own apps—but they must fill out and submit an online form to do it. https://www.wsj.com/...

a couple things on this scoop Facebook will allow EU users to “opt-out.” I wouldn't say it may fall short for “privacy activists,” it falls WAY short for the public. Facebook arguably took the most egregious approach to GDPR and it's now being held accountable way too late. /1

Anyway, Facebook is trying to confuse the issue and create another delay here. @JeffHorwitz @samschech on it but it's worth noting that their legal basis approach was egregious, wrong, and all of the data they collected over the time isn't likely valid. /3 https://www.wsj.com/...

So @Meta is now switching from illegal “contracts” to illegal “legitimate interests”, at least as #step1 they will now have to provide an opt-out - @noybeu will now take the next steps to get to “opt-in-consent” in a #step2 it seems... #GDPR https://noyb.eu/...

Meta (Facebook, Instagram) switching to “Legitimate Interest” for ads after noyb win. noyb will instantly take action to also stop this illegal practice next - https://noyb.eu/... no surprise; and so it goes on... #privacy #gdpr

#Meta bosses look at political ads ban in Europe as the Commission is drawing up new laws to come info force next year designed to force #BigTech to reveal more about the political groups behind campaigns and which users they are targeting https://www.ft.com/... via @FT... https:…
