Elon Musk says only verified accounts will be recommended in Twitter's For You tab and be able to vote in polls to address “AI bot swarms”, starting April 15

Twitter users will need a “verified account” to get recommended on the platform's For You page starting on April 15th …

Frankly the algorithmic timeline is the only “advantage” Twitter offers over something like Mastodon, if you're into that sort of thing.  —  He's disabling the only thing of value at the company.  —  Masterful gambit, sir.

@paul Hey, Elon, tell us more about these advanced AI Twitter bot swarms!  Sounds very sci-fi!

Every decision he makes is worse than the last.  —  Everything he does appears calculated to continue decreasing the value of a now-$20B company he paid $45B for only a matter of months ago.  —  Just wow.

Well now in the waning days of Twitter, I will have NO reason to ever look at “for you,” populated as it will be with the fools who bear the Blue Check Mark of the Eight-Buck Schmuck.

y'all gotta understand that #twitter users won't migrate to #mastodon until mastodon charges them $8 for the full feature set, starts serving up ads / tracking, and institutes a nonsensical algorithm ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And so Twitter will go to being primarily pay-for-play as of April 15.  Only paid users ("verified") will have their posts appear in the “For you” tab. …

Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations. The is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Voting in polls will require verification for same reason.
