It is gaslighting. The government doesn't want you focused on their corrupt failure to pass a data privacy law, or their refusal regulate data brokers who help them avoid getting warrants https://twitter.com/...

For the people who have advocated fruitlessly for years for the US to have any substantial data privacy law, it has to feel like gaslighting to see the country's national security apparatus finally focus on what TikTok collects and then conclude the answer is to ban that one app.

Sen. Marco Rubio: “The evidence against TikTok's Chinese-controlled parent company, ByteDance, is overwhelming, which makes this a high-risk hearing for the company and its defenders.” Any stumble, he added, “will increase calls for a ban.” @johndmckinnon https://www.wsj.com/...

In polling, a plurality of voters actually support a TikTok ban. That isn't necessarily dispositive to what the political reaction would be. But I'd trust it before some hand-waving notion that OMG GEN Z WILL BE SO MAD AND WE HAVE TO APPEAL TO THE YOUTHS. https://www.washingtonpo…

Who is Shou Chew? The 40-year-old TikTok CEO walked me through his fast-rising career and game plan for Congress. He was less forthright about whether he killed a quail barehanded during Singaporean army survival training. https://www.wsj.com/...
