Google launches Unity plugin to help developers make Chromecast-compatible games

This plugin is the developer-tools follow-up to the multiplayer and second-screen game capabilities Google gave Chromecast in May 2015: the cast protocol could now host connected play, but few games took advantage because supporting it meant custom engineering inside engines like Unity.

By shipping an official Unity plugin, Google lowers that porting cost to near zero — and it foreshadows the deeper Google–Unity alliance that later produced managed connected-game services on Google Cloud and AdMob integration, as well as the Yeti subscription streaming effort reportedly designed to work with Chromecast.
