iFixit's Nexus 5X teardown lands mid-run in a busy stretch of flagships-under-the-knife: earlier in 2015 the HTC One M9 teardown found a buried battery and a display that would be very hard to repair, while the OnePlus 2 came out more repairable than its predecessor with a fairly removable battery.

The Nexus 5X joins that cohort on the favorable side — many components modular and independently replaceable — weeks before iFixit awarded the modular Fairphone 2 a rare 10 out of 10, making late 2015 the moment when repairability stopped being an afterthought and became a scored design axis.
