Sources: Microsoft plans to release a version of Bing that uses OpenAI's ChatGPT tech to answer some search queries, possibly launching as soon as Q1 2023

Microsoft could soon get a return on its $1 billion investment in OpenAI, creator of the ChatGPT chatbot, which gives humanlike text answers to questions.

The more interesting thesis to me is that discontinuity in the user interface as you move some searches to LLMs creates the opportunity for a market share shift. I'm not sure I believe that, though.

I really don't understand the idea that producing search results using LLMs will change the search business model. You might get an answer instead of a link with an ad, but then that was always true. Not all searches can be monetised. 1/

Hopefully a Sputnik moment for Google - there is nothing like an external threat to unite internal factions. Great news for all of us users of search engines and it's great news for those inside Google lobbying for for daring change. https://twitter.com/...

With GPT-4 coming in Spring and Bing proposing a March launch, what will Google do? Unlike https://you.com/: “Bing will still rely on its own technology to produce most search results” as GPT isn't meant to “continuously scrape the web... like a search engine does.” https://twitt…

I'm skeptical this can be productized into a form that is acceptable to include on Bing. In particular, cost, latency, and GPT's inability to tell fact from fiction will present challenges. Inevitably it will be productized though. https://twitter.com/...

Microsoft $MSFT moved slightly higher and Google $GOOGL moved slightly lower in after hours on this news I do think this is something that could move the stocks tomorrow Is competition really coming for Google?

As I was saying a few weeks ago ... Satya might end up being the 🐐 CEO, while everyone obsessed over Elon. Revolutionized Microsoft, made smart bets in companies like OpenAI early on, has avoided being embroiled in culture wars or employee revolts ... https://www.theinformation.c…
