Wink built its pitch on a $50 hub that made smart homes simple and cheap, but reviewers had already found in February that not one Wink product worked as advertised out of the box. The botched software update that bricks many hubs turns those setup complaints into something worse: devices customers already bought and installed can be killed remotely by their own maker.
