OnePlus has been walking away from its dependency on Cyanogen all year: it shipped an alpha Lollipop build built without Cyanogen in January, then promised to detail the finished 'Oxygen' ROM at a February 12 event. Today's release is the payoff — a downloadable, Lollipop-based operating system for the OnePlus One that the company owns outright.

The timing matters because the One is getting two competing Lollipop paths at once: alongside OxygenOS, the device has begun receiving the official Cyanogen 12 update. That puts OnePlus's own software head-to-head with its former partner's on the same hardware, six years before OxygenOS would be folded into Oppo's codebase in the OxygenOS–ColorOS merger.
