Samsung's swipe-based fingerprint reader on the Galaxy S5 was the weak link in an otherwise flagship feature set — slow, error-prone, and awkward for the one-handed use mobile payments demand. With the Galaxy S5's fingerprint data later shown clonable by researchers, the stakes around getting this hardware right were only rising.
