Sources: Anthropic told investors that its Q3 revenue hit $16.8B, up from $11.5B in Q2, and that it was profitable on an adjusted basis in Q3, ahead of its IPO

Rapid growth is slower than some anticipated as fears about the AI trade rattle markets  —  Anthropic told investors …

Financial Times

Context & Ripple Effects

Anthropic's revenue trajectory had already accelerated from an annualized ~$3 billion in May 2025, driven by business demand, to a $10.9 billion Q2 revenue forecast in May 2026. By August, investor documents described more than $11.5 billion in Q2 revenue and positive adjusted operating income.

The reported Q3 figures extend that investor-facing arc while providing a sequential growth comparison. Public reaction focused on whether the reported growth and adjusted profitability support the expectations being placed on the company.

First-order effects

  • Anthropic gives investors a new reported revenue and adjusted-profitability benchmark, shifting the discussion from demand growth alone to whether that growth can produce positive adjusted results.
  • Anthropic's Q3 comparison makes the pace of sequential expansion more visible after the company reported more than $11.5 billion in Q2 revenue.

Second-order effects

  • Investors assessing Anthropic will put greater weight on the relationship between revenue growth and adjusted profitability, rather than treating rising revenue as a standalone signal.
  • Anthropic faces a higher bar to sustain the financial narrative established by its positive adjusted Q2 operating income as sequential growth becomes a more prominent comparison point.

Third-order effects

  • If large AI model providers can pair enterprise-scale revenue with adjusted profitability, investor evaluation of the sector will increasingly center on operating leverage and revenue durability rather than model capability alone.
  • The pattern points toward AI infrastructure commercialization becoming a financial-markets story as well as a product-adoption story, with reported margins and growth rates serving as key proof points.

The trend: AI model providers are being judged increasingly on whether fast enterprise revenue growth converts into repeatable profitability.

Anthropic's disclosed Q3 revenue of $16.8B (nearly +50% Q/Q from $11.5B in Q2) is a nice number in a vacuum, but it's just plainly insufficient to justify a $2 trillion+ valuation, especially in light of the $500 billion Anthropic said it intends to spend over the next decade.

Helpful breakdown. Thank you. So, Anthropic reportedly did $16.8bn in Q3: ~46% QoQ growth versus >140% in Q2. Using the inferred ~$74bn September exit run-rate: • Continuing ~6.6% monthly growth → ~$89bn by December • $100bn year-end bogey → ~10.7% monthly growth in Q4 Growth has…

Previous reporting had Anthropic reaching $65B run rate by the end of July. Unless there's an accounting difference between that number and the new $16.8 billion Q3 revenue, this points to a significant revenue growth slowdown in the last two months.

These are my rough estimates for Anthropic based on the FT article. It does seem their growth had decelerated meaningfully into the end of Q3. The 5.5 models may have reinvigorated that, but my base case would be between 5 and 10% growth a month (see the red line).
