Open Standard launches its OUSD stablecoin; founding partners Visa, Stripe, Mastercard, and Coinbase will offer initial access to businesses and developers
Open Standard moved from a consortium announcement—a group of payments, crypto and asset-management firms backing Open USD—to a live distribution effort. Its earlier model centered on sharing reserve earnings with participants, making partner incentives part of the product design rather than merely a go-to-market arrangement.
Visa, Stripe, Mastercard and Coinbase become the initial access points for OUSD, giving their business and developer customers a defined route into the Open Standard network.
Open Standard shifts from assembling founding partners to testing whether partner-led distribution can create usable demand for a reserve-earnings-sharing stablecoin.
Second-order effects
Stripe's Open Issuance customers gain an alternative to launching a proprietary stablecoin: they can weigh control of their own asset against distribution through an OUSD network backed by Stripe and other partners.
Visa and Mastercard must make their respective stablecoin tools interoperable enough for shared partners to use OUSD without turning the launch into another isolated payments rail.
Third-order effects
If businesses adopt OUSD through multiple founding partners, stablecoin competition shifts toward who controls merchant, developer and institutional distribution—not only who issues the token.
The reserve-revenue-sharing model points to a payments-market structure in which networks and distributors seek an economic stake in the settlement asset they promote, rather than acting solely as transaction intermediaries.
The trend: Stablecoin infrastructure is evolving from standalone issuance toward partner-governed settlement networks that bundle distribution, integration and reserve economics.
Thanks to Open Standard's reserve revenue-sharing mechanism (where profits generated by OUSD usage are shared with partner networks), Pi Network aims to design mechanisms to directly share this created value with its community. This will expand the network's real-world use cases …
