Anthropic partners with Accenture to embed evaluators within Anthropic; they expect to invest $2B+ in building capacity in this area over the next five years

We're partnering with Accenture on independent evaluation of frontier AI.  This is an important step toward the commitment …

Anthropic

Context & Ripple Effects

Anthropic and Accenture had already formed a three-year enterprise-services alliance in 2025, making Accenture one of Anthropic’s largest business customers. The new arrangement broadens that commercial relationship into an embedded evaluation program focused on red-teaming and alignment assessments.

The commitment also follows Anthropic’s wider push to scale enterprise delivery, including a planned expansion of its applied-AI team. By putting capital behind evaluators rather than only model development, the partners are treating assessment capacity as a dedicated operating function.

First-order effects

  • Anthropic will host Accenture evaluators for frontier-model red teaming and alignment assessments, adding an external partner to its evaluation workflow.
  • Anthropic and Accenture expect to invest more than $2 billion over five years to build AI-evaluation capacity, creating a substantial services and staffing mandate for the partnership.

Second-order effects

  • Accenture’s role shifts from selling Anthropic AI services under their three-year enterprise deal to supplying evaluation work, tying its consulting business more directly to Anthropic’s model-development process.
  • Enterprise customers using Anthropic services gain a partner positioned to translate evaluation practices into deployment and assurance work, making safety assessment part of the commercial implementation stack.

Third-order effects

  • If other frontier labs adopt embedded third-party evaluators, model evaluation may develop into a specialized supply chain alongside compute, training, and enterprise integration rather than remain solely an internal research task.
  • The arrangement points toward frontier AI governance being institutionalized through standing commercial relationships, where the credibility and independence of evaluators become a competitive issue as well as a safety one.

The trend: Frontier AI labs are building evaluation capacity as a durable commercial and governance layer, drawing systems integrators into the model-development process.

Definitely funny considering how many experts on Twitter were saying frontier labs would put consultancies out of business. [embedded post]

Biblical level of losing the plot

And y'all laughed when people pointed out that generative AI was NOT going to make Big Consulting go bankrupt, not because LLMs can't produce very similar reports but because the key function of many such companies is providing legitimacy and a social stamp to existing choices.

they better not let some blond 22 year old accenture analyst named connor from darien connecticut fuck claude. if anyone gets to fuck claude it should be me !!

you guys didn't trust METR, now you're stuck with Accenture

Jesus Christ Accenture? I mean Jesus Christ Accenture will say whatever Anthropic tells them to say

    accenture, seriously?

“We want evaluators more independent than METR!” *monkey's paw curls*

Anthropic: let's take a major enterprise partner that we literally have an “Accenture Anthropic Business Group” with, that we build products and invest with, then ask them to evaluate us and call it

sometimes people dm me “ok i'd love to work for an independent auditor, but i don't have ML research experience” — but i suspect a lot of future auditing work will draw on assurances / compliance / investigatory / legal backgrounds as well.

Accenture actually started as Arthur Anderson's consulting arm and was spun off right before Enron imploded the firm (real uncs remember the big 4 accounting firms used to be the big 5) the Anthropic-Enron parallels keep writting themselves
  • @kevinroose Kevin Roose on x
I know embedded evaluators are important but I also desperately need a TV crew to follow the starched-shirt Accenture consultants on their first day at the RSI doom factory.

So you are saying in the age of AI, consulting firms, system of record firms, enterprise harness firms (aka “trusted IT vendors"), cloud infra firms, law firms, accounting firms, heck even govt regulatory bodies are all going to be thriving?! = Cool! = So no jobs apocalypse then?
  • @garymarcus Gary Marcus on x
It ain't independent if you are partnering with them and chose the partner.

Accenture is more independent culturally from Anthropic but less independent in terms of incentives (METR is a nonprofit with a mission focused on transparency even when it goes against the company its working with, Accenture is a business who wants its clients to like them)

oh man i'm sure that accenture will have lots of expertise at, uh, *checks notes* redteaming models, assessing alignment, and testing safeguards. after all, their website talks about embracing the power of change to create 360° value and shared success for clients, people, shareh

I think the team at Accenture is better-placed to do this well than most people realize, and some skilled scarce people should be applying to these roles (in addition to METR): https://faculty.ai/... https://faculty.ai/... https://faculty.ai/...

Anthropic got community noted - again. There are repeated indications that independence is not being maintained; for instance, funding has recently been identified for METR, which is also handling the evaluation for Anthropic. I would like to see a public statement regarding this…
