Nvidia and Booz Allen Hamilton limit Fable use as Anthropic doesn't guarantee zero data retention; source: Palantir hasn't made Fable available via its software

The Information

Context & Ripple Effects

Anthropic had already been drawn into government-facing risk scrutiny through the Defense Department's supply-chain-risk designation. Nvidia, meanwhile, had been tightening controls around who can access its AI products, including more stringent due diligence for Asian chip clients.

The reported limits on Fable put data-retention assurances alongside supply-chain and distribution controls as a condition for deployment in security-sensitive enterprises. Palantir's reported decision not to offer Fable through its software extends that constraint to a major deployment channel.

First-order effects

  • Nvidia and Booz Allen Hamilton restrict Fable for users whose work requires zero-data-retention assurances, narrowing their approved-model options.
  • Palantir's reported omission of Fable from its software prevents its customers from accessing the model through that platform.

Second-order effects

  • Anthropic faces pressure from large enterprise buyers to make data-retention commitments clear enough to satisfy internal model-approval policies.
  • Model vendors seeking Nvidia, Booz Allen Hamilton, or Palantir-linked workloads gain an advantage when their retention terms meet those buyers' security requirements.

Third-order effects

  • If similar restrictions spread, frontier-model procurement will be governed less by model capability alone and more by auditable controls over data handling and access.
  • Enterprise AI platforms may become stronger gatekeepers, deciding which models reach regulated and security-sensitive users through their approved software channels.

The trend: Frontier-model access is becoming an enterprise security-governance decision, with data-retention guarantees serving as a deployment gate.

Discussion

some nervous Anthropic customers are restricting Fable use or demanding guarantees that Anthropic won't ever be able to retain data from their use of the model.

Iol deeply ironic that this whole dynamic is finally breaking into the open—all because OpenAI was racing to be first to solve a math proof. Has been clear to researchers since Anthropic's UI capabilities suddenly surged after Figma and Lovable became a heavy Claude user.

maybe aidan was right and other companies are also starting to realize this, ZDR means nothing

Dario and Sam need to impose AI communism on every company in the world. If they don't, there is a big danger to humanity.

SITUATION DETECTED: Nvidia, Palantir, and Booz Allen Hamilton are restricting or eliminating the use of Anthropic and OpenAI models in some cases due to rising corporate data retention and intellectual property concerns, per The Information.
  • @daveshapi David Shapiro on x
I've been saying for years that the market would discipline the excess hubris and delusions of Sam and Dario. FAFO in real-time. Steal your user's insights and you justify local, sovereign, and open weight models.

Probably unrelated to Anthropic's CEO using the “AI Safety(!!!!)” media cycle to demand regulations choking out open source competitors that let users retain their private data. Total coincidence.
  • @jgarzik Jeff Garzik on x
This will continue until there is legal clarity on data practices. Private corporate data, personal health data, patented works and more need strong protection and legal clarity (for both users and providers).
