OpenAI launches a ChatGPT Health integration with Epic's EHR system and a Healthcare Public Data plug-in that can fetch info from sources like RxNorm and PubMed

OpenAI began ChatGPT Health as a limited waitlist for importing medical records and health-app data in January 2026, while separately introducing a HIPAA-compliant clinician offering for medical reasoning and administrative work. In July, it made ChatGPT Health available to logged-in U.S. users aged 18 and over.

The Epic connection moves the product from user-supplied health data toward information held in clinical workflows, while the public-data plug-in pairs patient context with reference sources. OpenAI says physicians evaluated connected-EHR responses across use cases including pre-visit review, medication review and handoff summaries.
