OpenAI says it plans to stop providing its models to Cursor from November 12, as “we cannot be confident that SpaceX will use our technology within our ToS”

Today, we notified SpaceX that we intend to wind down our contract providing OpenAI models to Cursor, with a proposed shutoff date of November 12, 2026.

so, OpenAI is pulling its models from Cursor... honestly, I expected this.. a lot of people are already choosing to unsubscribe from codex and just get cursor ultra, knowing they will have Cursor + xAI in the same ecosystem anyway.. personally I'm still subscribed to both, but

I take it as a pretty straightforward accusation of distillation as the root cause for Grok 4.5-4.6's rapid catch-up. From OpenAI's perspective it wasn't Elon's compute, nor Cursor's expertise. They're probably correct to an extent.
