Take-Two reports Q1 bookings down 3% YoY to $1.39B, vs. $1.38B est., forecasts Q2 and FY 2027 bookings below est., and highlights excitement for GTA VI's launch

Context & Ripple Effects
Take-Two had already told investors in May that fiscal 2027 bookings would trail estimates while reaffirming GTA VI’s November 19 launch. The latest guidance repeats that near-term mismatch, keeping the launch as the central milestone in the company’s outlook.
The contrast is sharper against Take-Two’s 2023 projection of $8 billion in bookings for the following fiscal year, which was framed around the prospect of GTA 6. A fall 2025 GTA VI release target had previously anchored that growth narrative.
First-order effects
- Take-Two’s below-estimate Q2 and fiscal 2027 outlook resets the company’s near-term bookings benchmark despite Q1 coming slightly ahead of consensus.
- GTA VI becomes more consequential to Take-Two’s forward narrative as bookings decline year over year ahead of its stated launch.
Second-order effects
- The repeated below-estimate fiscal outlook, following May’s similarly cautious guidance, concentrates investor attention on whether Take-Two can convert GTA VI’s launch into the bookings growth earlier forecasts implied.
Third-order effects
- If this pattern persists, Take-Two’s financial cadence will be increasingly shaped by a small number of major launches, making release timing and execution more important than quarter-to-quarter bookings variation.
The trend: Large game publishers are tying longer-range financial expectations more closely to the timing and performance of tentpole releases.

Take-Two CEO has defended GTA 6 not having a physical disc: “Our business is well over 90% digitally distributed. It's already a digital business. So in certain instances, especially if it's a big game, discs just — note I said discs — don't really make sense for the consumer. [i…

Doesn't look like we are going to see the pre-order numbers for GTA 6. But from what Take Two said, they have had an exceptional start to pre-orders. We can fill in the blanks... Looking like Strauss has got that red meat lined up over the next year 😂 [image]

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have/are gonna get any exact GTA 6 pre-order numbers today. Take-Two has just reiterated their FY27 $8.0-8.2 billion net bookings outlook which suggests that they've done *quite* well lol. [image]
