A local official with Sturgeon County tells me Meta's Canadian data centre will use almost as much energy as the entire city of Edmonton uses for electricity, which has a population of over 1 million people.

The data centre will be in Sturgeon County, just north of Edmonton. Meta says it will also spend C$60 million on local infrastructure including roads and water infrastructure. Meta insists their data centre will use less water “than a typical Alberta golf course.”
