Anthropic says the US government is allowing Mythos 5 to be redeployed to critical infrastructure operators, and is working to restore general access to Fable 5

Since June 12, we've been working closely with the US government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Today, the government notified us that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical

Context & Ripple Effects

Anthropic said on June 13 that it was seeking to reverse a US export-control order affecting Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Subsequent coverage described a partial lifting of the block for Mythos 5 while discussions over Fable 5 continued.

This update narrows the immediate reopening to organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. Later reporting says the US tied broader access to Anthropic’s commitment to proactively detect and address security risks, including a reported safeguard.

First-order effects

  • Eligible US critical-infrastructure operators can redeploy Mythos 5, restoring access to Anthropic’s designated cybersecurity model for that limited group.
  • Anthropic regains a defined deployment channel for Mythos 5, while Fable 5 remains subject to a separate, unresolved process for general access.

Second-order effects

  • Critical-infrastructure customers and their AI vendors will need to operate within the government-approved access scope, making compliance and model safeguards part of deployment decisions.
  • Anthropic’s reported security-risk commitments create a practical template for the remaining Fable 5 negotiations and for any expansion of Mythos 5 access beyond the initially approved institutions.

Third-order effects

  • If this becomes the recurring approach, access to advanced AI systems may be governed through conditional, use-specific approvals rather than a simple choice between full release and blanket restriction.
  • The episode points toward safety controls becoming a commercial and policy gate for high-capability AI deployments, especially in sensitive sectors; how broadly that standard is applied remains unclear.

The trend: Advanced-model governance is moving toward conditional access regimes in which deployment rights are linked to demonstrable safeguards and the sensitivity of the user sector.

Thanks to Anthropic, frontier AI has officially become a national power asset. US AI companies are turning into government puppets. The strongest models go to the state, critical infrastructure insiders, big corporations, and elites. Everyone else gets watered-down, “safe”
