perhaps it is a fool's errand to even say “look at the actual books of this company” in the context of elonworld while traders stand to make lots of money on it, but i will continue to beat that drum

the important thing for me is that first day trading is basically divorced from company fundamentals today far less important of a data point than, say, a year from now

Incredible. Congrats to @elonmusk and the entire SpaceX team on the 25 years of blood, sweat and tears to build a world-defining company. Amazing to have examples like this that push the future forward. The downstream implications of this are enormous. [image]

Reminder than when @aileenlee first wrote about unicorns, she wasn't just talking about $1b private companies. She was talking about VC-backed companies now trading at $1b or more. Which still was rare. Today a $2 trillion VC-backed company went public

The reason why you want a ~20% IPO pop on day 1 is to reward investors who helped make the IPO successful by committing to the order book Pricing perfectly with no pop only benefits the company and not the investors (in the short term). The stock could rip or tank in longer run

With SpaceX getting priced at $135 today, Bloomberg estimates Musk's net worth is now $970.5B Tomorrow, any pop above the IPO price (or a Tesla rally) could make him the first Trillionaire! [image]

Anyone remember what $NET's IPO “pop” was? I like @matt_levine calling it “perfect” — to the penny. You have a lot more control of what happens when you price an IPO than it may seem. If @elonmusk turns out to have called it even close to perfect two weeks in advance... 🤯 [image]
