At this point while I still think these cellphones caused the birth rate drop is about an unobserved variable rather than a causal story but I'm not sure at all what the variable is
To be clear, the magnitude doesn't seem plausible given that the time examined was the weakest iPhone environment and social media environment. But any effect at all is interesting.

Any social science “finding” that seems wacky probably is. A third to a half of TFR decline in women aged 15-44 has not been caused by smartphones, obviously.
