I'm looking forward to children being unable to take a picture of Michelangelo's David on a school trip. — (And if you think that won't happen, try posting any kind of nudity in art on Instagram, Pinterest etc) — www.theguardian.com/technolog...

Is this honestly the best the Prime Minister can offer? — The tech giants have sat on software to do this for years but have instead prioritised profits over safety. — We need it rolled-out immediately. — The Prime Minister shouldn't be begging them to act; he should force …

Our statement on the UK government's demand that all content on all devices sold or used in the country be scanned, on the presumption of nudity, using a dystopian combination of age verification and content scanning. This proposal will not safeguard children. It endangers us

I'd love the government to explain how this would be technologically feasible, especially across the multitude of devices and platforms that exist. [embedded post]

How? The only method for doing that is to intrusively scan every message on the platform. This is pushing into government overreach and intrusiveness. — Better option is to use localised parental control apps to lockdown the phones of those underage.

The UK wants to scan all photos on phones for ‘nudity’. We should be protesting in the streets at the very least over this. …

Starmer wants spyware to be installed on every single phone in the country — that's unlikely to actually protect children but will raise significant risks for your privacy.

The Prime Minister is right to call on tech giants to act to protect children from harmful images. It's rapidly becoming clear that until companies can prove their platforms are safe for under-16s, a ban is the only way to stem the harms that are happening right now.

I make no apologies for doing the right thing to protect children from paedophiles. This is about stopping the coercion and sextortion of children, not surveilling or policing people's phones. This technology is already on devices. The tech firms just need to switch it on to b…

🚨 Tech companies like Apple and Google have three months. Activate safeguards on smartphones and tablets to detect and block nude images for children or we will bring forward legislation to force you to do so.

This government will not stand by while children are put at risk online. Today I am calling on the tech companies to introduce device-level controls to prevent children from taking, sharing or viewing nude images. And if they don't act, we will.

This sounds good in a headline, but it's not technologically possible without scanning everyone's private devices and messages. That's not child protection, it's mass surveillance by another name. It's Government overreach dressed up as safety.
