Microsoft has been progressively embedding generative AI into Bing: first through an AI-powered Bing and Edge experience, then through AI-generated result captions and shopping guides. Web IQ extends that work from features in Microsoft-owned surfaces to search infrastructure that AI agents can call.

Its reported use by Copilot, ChatGPT, and other platforms makes Bing’s role less dependent on users visiting a traditional search-results page. The immediate significance is distribution: Microsoft can supply web retrieval to multiple agent experiences rather than compete only for end-user search queries.
