X says it is cracking down on large accounts that have been gaming its revenue-sharing program by “programmatically reuploading content from smaller accounts”

X is introducing new strategies to rein in its copycat economy.  —  Elon Musk's social media platform is now cracking …

Over the past month, we have identified a number of large accounts that have been programmatically reuploading content from smaller accounts to game the revenue share program and circumvent crediting the original author. We are now identifying these posts and allocating the

All true, and yet: 1) X still lacks proper native video editing tools. The article system exists but isn't surfaced on the main timeline, which means long-form writing on X is effectively invisible to most of the audience that would read it. Live streaming? Forget about it. 2)

🚨 Nikita Bier just clarified X's stance on reposted videos: You can take videos from other platforms and be the first to post them on X. What X doesn't want is large accounts taking videos from other X users shortly after they post them and siphoning the impressions and [image]

Thanks for the credit @nikitabier 💕. Great step toward protecting small accounts.

@dsonoiki Your video getting stolen really bothered us. We're now investing a significant amount of engineering resources into these models.
  • @rainmaker1973 Massimo on x
I found the video on another platform, also because it's from YouTube, *not @ViralRushX. https://www.youtube.com/... But I guess the decision was made much earlier than this PARODY took place. Who uses FAKE WATERMARKS can be monetized. Who doesn't use them, cannot.

This is encouraging for small creators. So now, lifting or screenshotting people's posts to repost on your page earns you zero revenues. It's either you quote the small creator, or you comment under their posts, or you use the “share” feature. Then you're guaranteed a tiny
  • @beffjezos @beffjezos on x
@nikitabier can you add a feature like the Share Video long press but for photos? Should be fairly easy and would be much better to recaption memes than a quote tweet

Content ID and a three strikes rule like YouTube has will solve the problem of @ianmiles and his contemporaries “downloading, ripping and monetizing without permission” @StartupArchive_ uses clips from @twistartups all the time, but at least he links back and gives credit [image]
  • @rainmaker1973 Massimo on x
Nikita Bier publicly defended an account who took a video from YouTube and kicked me off monetization for posting the same video without a wrong, false watermark. I was expecting a bit more from X than this ridiculous expedients.

@nikitabier If Grok can help identify the original source as it's difficult to find it. In this case, i asked the team and they actualy sourced it from a Telegram channel (here it is: https://t.me/...) and did not know the original source Every time we know the original posted, w…

@Rainmaker1973 @elonmusk I appreciate your curation, but you need to credit sources. You've reposted videos I recorded without tagging me. Doesn't matter to me, but if I was a content creator who worked hard making a video, I'd be really pissed that you ripped it off with no cred…

@nikitabier ... Ok this is great fuck all these guys, but it's also funny to give any kind of props to guys sticking watermarks on content ripped off other platforms

  • @tomwarren Tom Warren on x
I wish all platforms did a lot more of this. There are far too many aggregator accounts on here that just post screenshots of people's work or regularly upload TikTok videos they didn't create without linking the original. The web was built on linking to sources
  • @nikitabier Nikita Bier on x
@jayplemons Commentary is encouraged and will get a portion of impressions. However, original posts will always get the bulk of the allocation.
  • @wholemars @wholemars on x
Stealing content will no longer be profitable on X. Bravo X & XAI teams 👏
  • @devahaz Deva Hazarika on x
Any of these accounts ripping videos from other platforms and sticking their own watermark on them should be demonetized or suspended too, and in an ideal world they should all be required to credit sources for their content [image]
  • @nikitabier Nikita Bier on x
@Rainmaker1973 After sourcing 2759 videos from @ViralRushX over the last 6 months, you're now circumventing attribution by simply cropping out his watermark? You cannot get more shameless than this. This is your last day in the creator program. [image]
  • @datachaz Charly Wargnier on x
@nikitabier ... Wait a minute.. @ViralRushX is crying about big accounts stealing “his” content? He literally scrapes tiktok, slaps his watermark on videos he didn't make, gives zero credit.. .. and then throws a tantrum when big accounts do the same thing to him. The hypocrisy i…

@nikitabier Yeh we always use Video Reshare, but it doesn't work for longer tweets. Would be great if that's facilitated Revenue should always favor original creators and not those who reshare. That's the right move
  • @djsnm Scott Manley on x
Lots of people have been complaining about Massimo stealing our content and not giving credit so I find it odd that the straw that broke the camel's back was stolen from another account known for reposting content without giving credit.
  • @ianmiles Ian Miles Cheong on x
You want to ban people from clipping publicly available NEWS CLIPS and PUBLIC SPEECHES BY POLITICAL FIGURES or commenting on them? I thought you supported free speech. It's actually appalling how uneducated you are when it comes to the issue of fair use.

the crashout is real... can't make this up... 😂 [image]
  • @rnaudbertrand Arnaud Bertrand on x
@ViralRushX @Rainmaker1973 Except that it's not remotely “your content”, is it? You yourself stole it from YouTube without any attribution: https://www.youtube.com/... You're doing exactly the same thing as @Rainmaker1973 😅 [image]
  • @rainmaker1973 Massimo on x
This is humiliating a person publicly by basically saying that *some accounts* who put their watermark on stolen video can be monetized, others who post without the FAKE watermark, cannot. Those 2759 videos were EMBEDDED and contributed to that account's growth. LIES.

As a creator who has had revenue literally stolen from large accounts like this, I can't believe she had the audacity to say the quiet part out loud. I don't block a lot of people. And I've never blocked anyone proactively. The Figen will be the first.
  • @being_humor @being_humor on x
Really great work @nikitabier This is what X should be. People who post original content, whether text or video, should be rewarded the most. It will promote original and creative thoughts. 🥳

Let me ask you something, @nikitabier ! You only paid me for food because I didn't share my own content. That's fine, it doesn't matter to me. Even when payments were reduced by 80%, I still posted actively here every single day for hours! But now I'm getting millions of views

Hope @NFL_DovKleiman is one of the accounts you identified. Here is a link to my original tweet https://x.com/... In the comment below, is a screen shot of the one he reuploaded months later.

NEW RULES FOR THIS PLATFORM Just make sure you stamp a FAKE WATERMARK on a video and this guy here will praise you. He will also demonetize who found the same clip somewhere else without the fake watermark and shared it. It works. I tested it today.

The folks running Twitter have created an entire economy for people who have nothing to offer, who steal videos, pictures, art and oftentimes entire articles. In the past, all it gained them was attention. Now, they make money from it. Thus the nonstop barrage of slop.
  • @jason @jason on x
This is hilarious... when the content theft police get a complaint about stealing content, it's inevitably by someone [ checks notes ] also stealing content with credit 😂😂😂 clipping culture is generally ok in the minds of the original creator if you link back, ask permission

@MarioNawfal Please do not reupload the author's video: use Quote or Video Reshare. Your revenue was reduced by 90% last cycle and we're running out of room to reduce it more.
