    Great read. Amazing details.

    Good post, this observation is super interesting- “In China, the LLM community feels far more like an ecosystem than battling tribes. Across many off the record conversations, it's nothing but respect for peers. All of the Chinese labs fear Bytedance with their popular Doubao

    Old enough to remember years of fearmongering about Chinese data advantage (they're so unscrupulous, they don't respect IP! CCP Inc.! The Party will just provide its Champions - iFlyTek probably - with the entire scraped WeChat!) nah, Americans lead in data by a light year [image…

    It's a really wonderful piece on the cultural differences between the two AI powers. Give it a read if you're curious how the world changes. [image]

    Ton of gems in here regarding chinese ai labs. the one that stood out to me was the rl env market in China it's quite fascinating the difference in strategy btwn the US and China on data: The US buys and China builds. in general, frontier labs are bottlenecked on figuring out

    Singling out this part: there is a deep bet in Chinese industry that the model layer is the full stack worth mastering. [image]

    some thoughts on exploring the chinese ai ecosystem 1) i think that @natolambert's article on his visit to china is a good example of how not to do analysis of a foreign ai ecosystem 2) the @readsail team visited china as part of a trip to talk to the major chinese ai labs;

    Chinese AI labs are big on building their environments/scalable data mining processes. Many of our works are inspired from their open works.

    This is an incredible story about the Chinese AI labs. “There's an immediate reality at all of the labs that a large proportion of the core contributors are active students. This is incredibly different from the top labs in the US, where the likes of OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor”

    Visiting most of the leading Chinese AI labs, I'm struck by a culture that's extremely well suited to building LLMs with fewer resources, but one happening in a very different ecosystem, more companies at play, almost no data industry, etc. Full report: https://www.interconnects.…
