There's a lot of confusion right now about the PlayStation 30-day DRM issue People are calling it a random bug or saying it only affects PS Plus games It's not a bug and it's happening to regular purchases. I investigated what happen under the hood to see exactly what Sony did [i…

83% of PlayStation gaming sales were generated via digital downloads. Gamers continue to hand complete control of their purchased goods to conglomerates who have nothing but disdain for them. Good job. PlayStation Players earned their always-online DRM. [image]

In 2013, the entire internet (rightfully) cooked Microsoft for the Xbox One's mandatory 24-hour check-in DRM. It was a PR disaster so bad they had to do a total 180 before launch just to survive. Massive waves of people fled to PlayStation, claiming they were “voting with their

Playstation is due for a good 2011 level of humiliation that makes the executives bow and apologize in front of the press. Perhaps it's gonna be this DRM disaster.

I have a lot of @PlayStation employees that follow me. This new “DRM check ins” update highlighted below by @SpawnWaveMedia is a horrible decision. You have customers who have purchased games, and may find themselves in a spot without internet for 30 days and cannot play. What

We now have multiple people reporting how the new DRM on PlayStation consoles works. https://x.com/... Can we put the “it's a bug” and “it's fake” and “they would never” naivety to bed now?

Woke up to the news of a PlayStation “spokesperson” giving a statement to Gamespot about the new DRM. Doesn't say anything new. Still doesn't comment on the CBOMB that turns your console into an always-online experience for new purchases. At the very least for the initial 14 days

Support responses to the Sony DRM issue making rounds. None fully address the issue. Yes, there is new DRM & there is a 30 day timer. But Support doesn't fully acknowledge how bad of a screw up the situation is nor why the DRM was even necessary. Zero word about the CBOMB, e.g. […

The fact that they deliberately put “physical” before “code-in-a-box” says 2 things: 1) They think you are extremely stupid. 2) They actively undermine the meaning of “physical” to sneak in an inferior product as the new status quo. Don't give in! [image]

So a short summary of the DRM PS4/PS5 drama: - It seemed Sony will do a 30 day check in on games to verify licence - Turns out after 14-day refund window, one online connect upgrades it to permanent DRM-free forever. - No 30 day checks anymore after that... Just stops refund

The PlayStation DRM situation really gives hope. More and more seem to realize that the grass on the all-digital side isn't as green as they thought. Regardless of the actual issue, people realized what it feels to be at the mercy of someone who only sees you as a wallet to drain

Ohhh, so the PlayStation DRM is to stop people buying a game, refunding it, then continuing to play it. Then after the refund window is up, the DRM goes away and you can continue to play offline. Makes sense.
