Docs: OpenAI projected at the start of this year that $8/month ChatGPT Go subs will grow ~36x to 112M in 2026, while $20/month Plus subs will fall 80% to ~9M

For three years, OpenAI has generated most of its revenue from people paying $20 a month for subscriptions to ChatGPT.

Did OpenAI try leaking an “exciting projection” to the Information but ended up revealing it's losing 80% of its subscription revenue?? Outside of getting 109 million new paying subscribers to another product, of course

What a peculiar article! Says 112m paid subs at the $5-a-month tier up from *THREE MILLION* in 2025, but also $20-a-month subscribers will decrease by *80%* from 44M to 9m in 2026? I dunno this reads to me like OpenAI is churning its $20-a-month subs! https://www.theinformation.c…

Just want to be clear that this article says that OpenAI projects to LOSE 35 million $20-a-month subscribers - around $700m a month/$8.4bn a year in revenue, and the only way it will recover said revenue is if it gets *109 million new chatGPT Go subscribers*? [image]
