Sources: OpenAI missed an internal goal of reaching 1B weekly active ChatGPT users by 2025's end, and missed multiple monthly revenue targets earlier in 2026

The company's CFO and board have questioned the wisdom of massive data-center spending in the face of slowing growth

I still think OpenAI has a 50% chance of failing by mid 2027. Whatever the odds, this is the most gripping bull-bear debate in investment history.

I don't think I've ever seen an executive fare so well in the press inside of a company that is getting torched left / right / center. Masterful effort by all involved. [Zero implication that it's not warranted!] [image]

I don't think people realize the ramifications of OpenAI's revenue growth slowing. Oracle is building about $348bn in data centers and needs OpenAI to pay it $75bn a year in revenue to keep up with the costs. Ellison has bet everything on this. https://www.wheresyoured.at/ ... [i…

The headline and main angle are too backward looking. I'm looking forward to the next article in a couple of months covering the GPT-5.5 coding agent hypergrowth ramp (highly likely now, given the positive developer reception), which is barely mentioned as a potential game

OpenAI, which squandered its tremendous lead and is now missing its projections, is in trouble. There's no two ways about it.

When you project exponential growth - and miss. I stand by my call that OpenAI is likely to someday be seen as the WeWork of AI.

It's literally all Claude eating their lunch. Lagging indicator. Cracked devs on X are leading indicators. Everyone I know switched to Codex. Give it a month and it will be apparent in revenue numbers.

feels like an undisciplined organization gorged on cash, riding first-mover momentum, but carrying no analysis for why it actually exists.  Anthropic, by contrast, exhibits a clear sense of purpose and their revenue gains emerge from its consistent pursuit [embedded post]
