For clarity, we're running a small test on ~2% of new prosumer signups. Existing Pro and Max subscribers aren't affected.

I don't know what they are doing over there, but Codex will continue to be available both in the FREE and PLUS ($20) plans. We have the compute and efficient models to support it. For important changes, we will engage with the community well ahead of making them. Transparency

Engagement per subscriber is way up. We've made small adjustments along the way (weekly caps, tighter limits at peak), but usage has changed a lot and our current plans weren't built for this.

When we launched Max a year ago, it didn't include Claude Code, Cowork didn't exist, and agents that run for hours weren't a thing. Max was designed for heavy chat usage, that's it.

Weirdly, Anthropic says only 2% of new signups are affected, but as far as I can tell, this is the new pricing page *for everyone* (tried on several devices, in congnitio, same screen, this is not an A/B test as far as I can tell) https://x.com/...

This doesn't make any sense. Support documents no longer reference using Claude Code with your Pro account.

Confirmed that Anthropic - as of now - has removed Claude Code from new Pro signups. This is what the pricing page looks like. Feels like Anthropic has the bet that those doing coding work will be willing and ready to pay at least $100/month, going forward. [image]

@TheAmolAvasare but why? are you just going to lock out new users? how long until you randomly decide “no more claude code for all Pro users” or “no more claude code for max users” ? this is not a good look and will significantly hurt Anthropic

Since then, we bundled Claude Code into Max and it took off after Opus 4. Cowork landed. Long-running async agents are now everyday workflows. The way people actually use a Claude subscription has changed fundamentally.

The problem with “tests” like this unannounced documentation change is that it erodes trust in the platform. That in turn leads to “better have an exit plan” tool agnosticism thinking among users, instead of their going all-in on one tool.

Anthropic just pulled Claude Code from the Pro plan. Pro users wanting it need Max now. $100/month minimum. 5x jump. I'm on Max 20x so I'm fine. Flagging for anyone on Pro who's about to find out. No announcement. Just a pricing page edit. [image]

It appears that Anthropic has removed Claude Code from its $20-a-month pro subscription based on its pricing page. Anyone able to confirm who has a $20 plan? https://claude.com/pricing [image]

So we're looking at different options to keep delivering a great experience for users. We don't know exactly what those look like yet - that's what we're testing and getting feedback on right now.

This is so confusing. Did Anthropic really just drop Claude Code from their $20/month plan? Why would they do that through a pricing page update without making a proper announcement? Plus, $20/month still gets you Cowork, which is just Claude Code wearing a non-threatening hat! […

When we do land on something, if it affects existing subscribers you'll get plenty of notice before anything changes. Will hear it from us, not a screenshot on X or Reddit.

some context on the Claude Code situation in the quoted thread TLDR: - the golden era of subsidized vibe-coding is over - pay-up or go somewhere else (if you've read my articles you would've known that this day was coming) and if I was Tibo I would hit the double XP and [image]

@TheAmolAvasare Hi Amol - can you explain why you've entirely removed it from support documents too? I've confirmed on multiple devices now that it isn't showing at all on the pricing page. https://web.archive.org/... https://support.claude.com/...

My hunch for now is that this was an ill-considered test which they didn't anticipate would be instantly spotted and cause (justified) uproar - here's hoping they decide that the “test” isn't a good idea! If they do go ahead I expect OpenAI Codex to catch Claude Code very fast

“Current plans weren't built for this” sure sounds like Anthropic will start walking away from the current subscription models. They won't even admit they're pulling Claude Code from Pro, claiming it's a “test” despite support docs no longer referencing Pro in Claude Code

For the “small test” they've modified their docs to remove mention of Claude Code in Claude Pro: https://support.claude.com/... It's been a shock to see Anthropic's integrity collapse in the face of commercial pressure. Would love a renewed commitment to straightforward honesty.

I expected price increases for the best frontier systems I didn't expect straight up deletion of the only good use-case for AI Anthropic thinks they can just squeeze you and make you pay 5x I think people will just go to OpenAI, Google or chinese labs that will offer similar

Anthropic has now reversed every change, and said that removing Claude Code from Pro was a “small test of 2% new prosumer signups.” This does not sufficiently explain why changes were made to support materials and the website. I believe more changes are to come. — www.wheresy…

seems obvious that OpenAI and anthropic are losing money on the wildly generous Claude code/codex subscriptions (giving $1k usage for $20/month) Isn't it only a matter of time before they stop offering them, and funnel people towards more expensive plans or usage based pricing?
