YouTube launches a Shorts feature that lets creators generate photorealistic AI avatars using a “live selfie” recording of their face and voice, powered by Veo

YouTube is now letting users create an AI avatar that looks and sounds like them for use in Shorts.  This feature was teased earlier this year.

YouTube has progressively embedded Veo into Shorts: first for generated backgrounds and short clips, then through Veo 2, and later with a Shorts-specific Veo 3 Fast tool with sound. The new avatar capability extends that production stack from generating assets to generating a creator’s on-screen presence.

The rollout also delivers on YouTube leadership’s earlier plan to let creators use AI versions of their likenesses. That makes identity capture—not just video generation—the next native input to Shorts creation.
