holy sheet the era of Metaverse is over ok, VRC is still around... for now I'll miss Rec Room tbh. The only one not awful enough. Its creation tools were great - HW heavily drew from it. I recreated my grandma houses in them - now only memories of memories

For those that don't know, Rec Room was the game I used to create content on from 2020-2024 before switching to Fortnite. I'm gonna forever cherish all the memories I've collected, videos I've created, and friendships we made along the way <3 🧵 [image]

As much as I did not like rec room it is admirable that they're letting creators for the platform download their stuff in the hopes they can bring it elsewhere. I never really had a positive connection to this game, but I know many did and I sympathize with those individuals.

I had to give my kid the biggest hug when I told them this. Playing Rec Room with them has been a significant source of joy between us; I've even done it when in a long business trip to help them feel closer to me. I wish there was something we could do 😔

When I worked on Horizon Worlds at Meta, we used to look at Rec Room and VR Chat as competition.  Rec Room plans to shut down as it couldn't find a profitable business model.  —  It was once valued at $3.5B and served 150M users in total.  —  It's the end of an era.

If Rec Room, a game that had at one point 20 MILLION monthly active users can't make a profit, I think there's a snowball's chance in hell social vr is ever going to be profitable.  —  The game's onboarding was the best I've seen in VR.  Sucks to see it go.  —  blog.recroom.com/p…

blog.recroom.com/posts/school...  Well, that's a shame.  It was a super fun 2 years of my life, I really enjoyed working with everyone there, and we made some fantastic experiences.  When most of us were laid off last year it was obvious trouble, but I always hoped they'd find a …

This makes me sad... I'm not really the target audience, did play rec room a bit in the beginning days, but I didn't have the time to invest.  I wish there was a way for this to persist though.  —  blog.recroom.com/posts/school...
