🚨‼️ BREAKING: Apple has activated age verification in iOS 26.4 for UK citizens. After updating to the latest version, users are prompted to verify their age. If you don't, some restrictions can't be overridden. And you won't be able to download or purchase certain apps. [image]

Joel is wrong on the technical details (again) and continues to show a lack of attention to detail. Apple is only implementing an over-18 check. The bill Joel is pushing forces Apple to verify granular age categories (12-/13-15/16-17/18+) AND verify a parental relationship.

I am not a fan of the rise of mandatory age verification in apps and websites.  —  But if that's the direction we're going to go in then it makes the most sense for this to be supported at the operating system level than every random website or app collecting your government ID.
