TERAFAB: the next step to becoming a galactic civilization Together with @SpaceX & @xAI, we're building the largest chip manufacturing facility ever (1TW/year) - combining logic, memory & advanced packaging under one roof. To harness as much power as possible from the Sun, we

T͢E͢R͢A͢F͢A͢B͢ Launch ⌨ Goal: adding a trillion watts of compute, 2x the entire U.S. electricity market, every year. A new 2nm fab to build ~1 billion AI chips/year. Most will be in space. “We have an announcement to make: the most epic chip-building effort by far.” — [image]

It simply can't be overstated how important building a chip fab of this scale in the United States is for our national security. More than 90% of the world's current production of chips are in Taiwan. TERAFAB is vital to our national security interests. [image]

The fact that Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI are collaborating on the Terafab facility only increases my confidence that Elon will combine the three businesses at some point. It will be the largest, most valuable, and most important company in history.

The entire world's electricity consumption is roughly 3-4 terawatts. 1 petawatt = 250-330 times all the electricity humanity uses at any moment. A single lightning bolt is in the terawatt range. About 1,000 simultaneous bolts is needed to hit 1 petawatt. This is world

Ok. So essentially Terafab is not a plan for a ‘standard’ semiconductor fab, but includes mask production, test house and packaging under one roof. This alone is a very alien concept. If they only achieve this alone, not even considering reaching the crazy output numbers, they're

Elon just concluded his Terafab announcement. Key points and my take at the end. It'll be a semiconductor joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX. It will make two types of chips, an inference chip that will be used in both self driving cars and Optimus robots. He expects [image]

Terafab is such a blatant fucking pump it actually disgusts me. There will never be leading edge chips from them. There will never be Datacenters in space. This is such a blatant effort to IPO SpaceX on the back of some pie in the sky bullshit and then merge with Tesla, do a

Terafab. Come for the the two types of custom AI chips: ▫️AI5/AI6 for Tesla (edge inference for FSD/Optimus) ▫️D3 for SpaceX (AI chips for space data centers) Stay for the Moon-based electromagnetic mass driver: [video]

Note that 1 kW is how much my home PC draws at peak, so all this mass is getting launched into space to provide the equivalent compute of one or two server racks in an office building closet that requires 0 data center permitting and maybe fifty grand of annual electricity cost.

SpaceX has been peddling complete nonsense with these presentations since at least 2016. At what point do you notice the pattern and stop believing the pretty slides?

Elon's argument for building a Terafab is the same he used to justify building 4680. I mean he even used to same words.

If the astronomers don't like Starlink satellites, they haven't seen nothing yet. “AI Sat Mini” with ~150 meter long solar panels... good luck stargazing. Also an Optimus robot army 1/8th the size of the human population of Earth. 📷 @SpaceX [image]

Today's Terafab announcement reminded me of when I first met Elon: I watched him do 10 hours of xAI reviews without a break—and then he ate a $9 Doordash burrito and kept going until 2am. He could do anything right now, but instead he spends every waking minute earnestly

Everyone is covering Terafab as a chip factory. It is not a chip factory. Last night in Austin, Elon unveiled a facility that makes masks, fabricates chips, and tests them inside a single building with a nine-month recursive improvement cadence. No such loop exists anywhere [imag…

As a $TSLA investor, I think it is wise to take a step back and do a full reset with our expectations in regards to our time horizon. We bought early for autonomy, some before us for just for BEVs. This new timeline of Optimus, SpaceX and xAI merger will take decades to unfold.
