“There's clearly going to be a domino effect,” said Daniel Wallach, a lawyer who specialises in gaming law. “These are the first criminal charges filed against Kalshi anywhere in the US but they may not be the last.”

On Arizona: These state-court charges are seriously flawed. It's gamesmanship. Four days after Kalshi filed suit in federal court, these charges were filed to circumvent federal court and short-circuit the normal judicial process. They attempt to prevent federal courts from

BREAKING: Arizona federal judge denies Kalshi's motion for a TRO against the Arizona Attorney General and orders Kalshi to show cause why the federal court should not “abstain” from hearing the case in light of the criminal charges filed vs. Kalshi in state court. [image]

Great to see leadership like this from Chair Selig at a time when it's sorely needed. The Arizona AG action today was, without reasonable debate, a truly disgusting and inappropriate over reach.

Without a TRO, the criminal case against Kalshi can proceed in Arizona. But there is still a pending motion for preliminary injunction (being heard on April 3rd), as well as the nearer-term prospect of emergency stay relief being requested from either Ninth Circuit or SCOTUS.

The Arizona Attorney General today filed criminal charges against one of our registered exchanges related to prediction markets. This is a jurisdictional dispute and entirely inappropriate as a criminal prosecution. The @CFTC is watching this closely and evaluating its options.

ICYMI: Arizona just turned the Kalshi situation into a 20 count criminal case. The AG is alleging Kalshi let Arizona users place what are, in their view, straight up wagers on things like sports outcomes, player props, whether legislation like the SAVE Act would pass, and [image]

NEW: Arizona has filed criminal charges against Kalshi for bets on elections, including which party will win the U.S. House majority in the 2026 election.  Arizona state law bans betting on elections.  —  www.azag.gov/press-releas...

Reading the charges...did Kalshi just assume Arizona wouldn't enforce their anti-gambling laws?  All the charges are just “accepted/recorded a bet"/"accepted/recorded an election bet".  I don't know about you guys but I would at least try to have a veneer of legality on my morall…
