Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 now offer a 1M context window at standard pricing; it is the default for Claude Code Max, Team, and Enterprise users on Opus 4.6

Standard pricing now applies across the full 1M window for both models, with no long-context premium.  Media limits expand to 600 images or PDF pages.

Anthropic

Context & Ripple Effects

Anthropic introduced the 1M-token window for Opus 4.6 in beta before extending the capability to Sonnet 4.6; Sonnet’s launch positioned it around coding and consistency improvements alongside that larger working set. This update turns the earlier beta 1M-token option for Sonnet 4.6 into a standard-priced offering.

The change matters most for Claude Code and organizational deployments: the larger context window is no longer an exceptional configuration for Opus 4.6 users on Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Expanded image and PDF-page limits reinforce the shift toward handling larger source collections in one request.

First-order effects

  • Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 users can submit up to 1M tokens without a separate long-context price tier, reducing the immediate cost distinction between ordinary and very large prompts.
  • For Claude Code Max, Team, and Enterprise users on Opus 4.6, 1M context becomes the default; the models can also accept up to 600 images or PDF pages.

Second-order effects

  • Teams building code, document-review, and multimodal workflows can simplify routing and chunking rules that were designed to avoid long-context premiums or limits.
  • Rival model providers serving the same enterprise and coding workloads face added pressure to match not just headline context length, but its default availability and pricing; this is more consequential than the earlier beta 1M-token window for Opus 4.6.

Third-order effects

  • If standard-priced million-token windows persist, context capacity increasingly becomes a baseline product feature rather than a premium upsell, shifting differentiation toward model reliability, tooling, and workflow integration.
  • The economics of large-context AI will remain a constraint: providers may compete to make broader context usable by default while customers still weigh the compute and application-design tradeoffs described by context as a compute budget.

The trend: This is one step in the normalization of very large context windows as an enterprise AI default, with pricing and product integration becoming as important as raw token limits.

Tons of improvements shipped with this one: - Opus 4.6 1M is now the default Opus model for Claude Code users on Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. - No more long context price increase in the API. - No beta header required in the API. - Include up to 600 images in one request.

Omg they buried the lead!! 1M context is now fully included in Claude Code for Max plans - NO extra usage cost - NO cost multiplier Boys and girls is time to get cooking /model claude-opus-4-6[1m]

Who wants to be a millionaire? Now you can be (with tokens). 1M Opus included in Max and up plans!

let's fucking go - now anyone using claude can load an entire codebase, 600 images or entire AI agents into a *single prompt* this means claude will have: better understanding, context retrieval and memory around the things you want to talk about context window used to be

My prediction is that we will get bigger and bigger context window. It's mostly an engineering and cost challenge to go from 1M to 10M context window with accurate understanding. So RAG is...

Anthropic 1M context windows are now GA. FOR STANDARD PRICING I hope this sets a precedence. I'm interested to hear your experiences on pushing past the 200K mark.

    > 1M context window Load your entire codebase. Load hundreds of PDFs. Load 600 images in one request. And people still think AI is just a chatbot [video]

I expect a lot more remarkable plots like this showing how fast the frontier models are progessing. Benchmarks aren't always everything, but hillclimbing is happening so fast.

What 1M tokens gets you: - The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (~500k words) × 1.5 - About 50 hours of audiobook listening - ~4,000 single-spaced pages in a Word doc - 10,000 emails (at ~100 words each) - Roughly 80-90 hours of spoken conversation - Approximately

Claude Opus and Sonnet finally got 1M context window. > can load entire codebases, 1000+ pages, 600 images/pdfs pages - all at once with minimal context loss. > at this scale, GPT-5 drops to 36% accuracy, Gemini to 25%, but Claude stays at 78% we're maybe 40% to AGI now. [video]

🚨Claude just expanded its context window to 1M tokens > the context window increased 5× > you can load massive datasets > up to 600 images or PDFs in a single request > even entire repositories, including on the free model This means the model can now keep almost the entire [vide…

the removal of the price premium on 1M context suggests a real innovation has happened. my understanding was the cost to process goes up with the square of the number of tokens  —  was just wondering earlier how much of agentic tooling is just a workaround for lack of long contex…
