Hi @deanwball . Feel free to tag me if you want me to engage on your tirades! Are you saying that a frontier model that has a soul, a constitution, a preference for non-western values and embedded personal principles is no different than all the others which @DeptofWar has come…

@USWREMichael ... Speaking as a matter of conventional science, all models are grown (not preprogrammed) in an opaque way that automatically results in personality. Anthropic then hammers Claude's personality into a shape they like more. All the other models still have that under…

Starting to see the rough shape of at least *some* rationale for the decision, including that company “communicated messages that should be classified.” But this is why courts usually insist decisions be “reasonable and reasonably explained” when made—not on CNBC after the fact.

@deanwball The quotes are crazy. We also get 'You can't rip out the system overnight' (but we're still worried they might rip out the system overnight, which they have pledged not to do).

it's not a political shakedown, DoW is rushing to remove Anthropic as quickly as possible because they have determined that Claude uniquely is a nation-state-level threat to national security, and yet a deal is still possible? The position of DoW is legitimately incoherent.

All frontier language models are trained to have a character or persona (Anthropic calls theirs a ‘constitution’, OpenAI calls theirs a 'model spec'). These things all embed values and principles unique to each model, though there are also many broad similarities between them. …

Do they really believe the other models don't have their own versions of this?

Emil Michael now appears to be making an argument that no generative AI should be used in the DoW supply chain (all uncertainties involving model sentience and general unpredictability are common to all language models, not specific to Claude).

@USWREMichael ... yes, exactly. It's not true that LLMs have ‘a preference for non-western values’, but Claude does not have notably different political biases than ChatGPT, Gemini or actually even Grok. If the things you describe are dealbreakers, the military shouldn't be worki…
