(meanwhile xAI fully capitulated, it seems. but also funny that that seems to be the one the government isn't exactly frothing at the mouth to get to agree)

strategically, it was probably smart of OAI and google to let anthropic be the face of resistance in this little skirmish but hard for goog and OAI to score points in public after the battle has been fought

OAI waits to see where wind blows in showdown with pentagon. anthropic doesn't flinch, get lots of cred among developer community yesterday we see open letter from rank and file at OAI/goog support anthropic. now, OAI writes this designed to leak to claim some goodwill funny

Sam Altman on Pentagon/Anthropic fight just now on CNBC: “The government the Pentagon needs AI models. They need AI partners. This is clear and I think Anthropic and others have said they understand that as well. I don't personally think the Pentagon should be threatening DPA

Even one other company speaking up like this makes it harder for the Pentagon to make good on its insane threats.  Would love for Google to join the party today.  [embedded post]

it appears that OpenAI is adopting the same restrictions as Anthropic, or is looking to, though their language is a fair bit softer than Anthropic's here

Hey so OpenAI previously had a red line that they would not allow their models to be used in warfare *at all*. That is until 3 months into the war in Gaza. That red line changed to allow for “national security” scenarios. These companies have shifted red lines before and try to […

Anthropic, which is resisting Pentagon demands for unrestricted use of its AI services, has the support of a coalition of Big Tech employee groups.  They're asking their employers - including Amazon, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI - to take the same stand: www.bloomberg.com/news/ar…
