SambaNova, which says its SN50 AI chip runs 5x faster than its rivals and will be deployed by SoftBank, raised a $350M Series E led by Vista Equity and Cambium
SambaNova adds $350M in Series E funding led by Vista Equity and Cambium, extending its capacity to pursue its AI-chip product and commercial rollout.
SoftBank's planned SN50 deployment gives SambaNova a named route to production use, while the company’s performance claim becomes a central benchmark for that rollout.
Second-order effects
The combination of fresh funding and a planned SoftBank deployment gives enterprise buyers and infrastructure operators another funded AI-compute option to evaluate alongside incumbent chip platforms.
Vista and Cambium’s participation ties a specialist hardware supplier more closely to financial sponsors, reinforcing the role of private capital in sustaining costly AI-compute competition.
Third-order effects
If deployments substantiate performance claims, AI infrastructure buyers may increasingly adopt heterogeneous compute rather than standardizing on a single accelerator supplier.
The pattern points to AI-chip competition being decided not only by silicon performance, but by whether vendors can pair financing with credible deployment channels and customers.
The trend: AI hardware challengers are increasingly using large private rounds and anchor deployments to turn differentiated chips into viable alternatives in the compute market.
Today, Intel and SambaNova, announced plans to build a multi-year strategic collaboration to deliver high performance and cost-efficient AI inference solutions for AI native start-ups, model providers, enterprises, and government organizations worldwide, built around Intel
SambaNova has gone from talks about a sale to a new fundraise and chip deal with SoftBank. Valuation still down significantly from last funding round though https://www.bloomberg.com/... by @ianmking and me
Excited to see @intel and @SambaNovaAI collaborate to advance cloud-scale AI inference and enable more scalable, efficient AI infrastructure. Having spent time at both companies, it's especially meaningful to see this shared vision take shape. 🤝 Let's go! https://newsroom.intel.c…
I guess Good for Sambanova. But I don't feel like this is sustainable unless they start getting some actual momentum. The deal is good for both of them, let's intel ship bunch of their GPUs for prefill and CPU as host, and Intel helps Sambanova reach out to customers.
SN50 is here. ✅5X faster than competitive chips. ✅3X lower cost than GPUs. ✅Built for the agentic era, inference at true cloud scale. We're also announcing a multi-year collaboration w/ @intel to unlock the next wave of AI infra. https://sambanova.ai/... [video]
Intel plans to tap into its “enterprise, cloud and partner channels” for a new “multiyear strategic collaboration” it has entered with AI chip startup SambaNova Systems after acquisition talks between the two companies recently ended. https://www.crn.com/...
SN50 is here, the fastest chip built for agentic AI. Max speed of up to 5X faster; run agentic AI at a 3X lower cost than GPUs, unlocking cloud-scale inference economics. We've also planned a multi-year strategic collaboration with @intel &raised $350M+ from @Vista_Equity, [video…
