NEWS: Meta is about to start a $65 million midterms push — its biggest political effort in its 20 years in business. Meta is standing up two super PACs that this week will drop money in races in Texas and Illinois to push A.I. Exclusive w/ @matt_zdun. https://www.nytimes.com/...

My number one priority in Congress will be to get big money the hell out of our politics. We can't get Medicare for All, universal childcare, or AI regulations until we root out this blatant corruption once and for all. It's time for publicly financed elections.

The thing about superpac influence is there's a difference between persuasion + manipulation. I believe voters will only get smarter about sniffing out bs, especially as AI continues to take center stage. Big ad buys alone are not enough to win elections (cc: 2020, 2024, 2025)

Playing both sides. Zuckerberg has no morals. Only money worship.

Shameless — but not surprising — to launch this literally the day Mark Zuckerberg is personally testifying in a landmark trial about the harms his products have caused for a generation of children.

the major environmental advocacy coalition in IL has been pushing for data center regulations for a year+ now and introduced a bill w/ energy, water, and siting regs for data centers a week ago, in case you were wondering why meta is funneling that kind of money into the state.

We don't live in a real democracy

NEW: Meta is digging into its $65 million political warchest to start two super PACs. One is called Making Our Tomorrow — to back Democrats. It starts this week in Illinois. The other is called Forge the Future Project — to back Republicans. It starts this week in Texas. [image]

Again remarkable how fucking cheap it is for a corporation to buy US government policy

Taking money from Meta super PACs to enable Zuckerberg's data center blitzkrieg should be as toxic electorally as receiving AIPAC funding, and deserves to be tracked extremely closely.

Oh look, a flailing business investing in political favors.

What kind of democracy is this

Unless Meta is sending candidates a questionnaire to fill out I don't see why this is a problem

We deserve representatives who are going to take an honest look at A.I. and regulate it accordingly. We can't afford more corrupt politicians bought by Big Tech. Help us show that Illinois is not for sale to tech oligarchs: https://secure.actblue.com/...

Get ready to hear so much more “organic” discourse on here about why we need to adopt AI [embedded post]

“In Illinois, Making Our Tomorrow is set to begin spending in at least four State House races, according to a representative for the group.  The money will go toward positive digital ads and direct mail sent to voters.”

one hell of a split screen.  just as Zuck does his perp walk into an LA courthouse to stand trial for harming kids, his company Meta drops another $65M into the midterms to elect politicians who will vote his way in congress.  —  this is why people like him believe they'll never …
