Keir Starmer says “no platform gets a free pass”, as the UK moves to amend safety laws to include AI chatbots like Grok, which made sexualized deepfakes of kids

Keir Starmer to warn tech companies that ‘no platform gets a free pass’ after deepfake scandal involving Grok

No social media platform should get a free pass when it comes to protecting our kids. That's why I'm taking action.
  • @tomdavenport Tom Davenport on x
Scared of Rupert Lowe so taking action to neuter the channel he beats our nation state at, social media. Say you're protecting kids, make adults do ID to “verify their age” and index the audiences so he can control what audiences see online. Don't let it happen.

We are determined to keep children safe online, give them the childhood they deserve and prepare them for the future in an age of rapid technological change.

🗣️ “...we will close the gap in the law around AI chatbots. We're really concerned about the impact that those are having on children and young people, but also to make sure that they are not allowed to spread illegal content online.” @leicesterliz speaks to @SkyNews on [video]

No platform gets a free pass when it comes to children's safety online 🤳💻 @Keir_Starmer and @leicesterliz have set out new powers to move faster as technology changes - and tougher action on AI chatbots sharing illegal content. [image]

This is ABSOLUTELY clueless, dangerous and undemocratic!! I have trained literally thousands of journalists (many in UK news rooms) and sources, and human rights defenders, in using VPNs for their physical and professional safety. An age check/ID for a VPN is a de facto ban.

It's official! Just as expected, the United Kingdom of Censorship now wants to “age restrict or limit children's VPN use”. https://www.gov.uk/... https://substack.com/...

This is the club that Keir Starmer wants us to join by restricting VPN access. [image]

What is the point of the upcoming “consultation” on this then @SciTechgovuk? Surely it's not a sham!
  • @anglopjdst @anglopjdst on x
This is basically one of the most important political fights we have, social media has allowed the development of opposition to the regime and they are desperate to nip it the bud using ‘kids’ as a wedge

Stop Scrolling 📲 You're already trapped in the attention economy. But it doesn't have to be that way for our kids, hooked on endless scroll and dopamine hits. The Government is right to explore every way to keep children safe online and prevent addiction.

Keir Starmer: We need to deal with AI bots. This is something relatively new, and we saw with Grok—did you see the thing with Grok just the other week? An AI bot that allowed you to instruct it to undress people—and it did. It was disgusting, absolutely disgusting. We went [video…

For too long as a society we've tolerated the increasing harms we simply accept young people are exposed to growing up online. These are the ambitions of a Government serious about putting that right 👇 [image]

@Keir_Starmer Seriously, prohibition doesn't work We don't teach our children road safety by banning them from going near roads We need to teach young people how to safely navigate the digital world. What do you think will happen after the ban? Even if they don't bypass it, do yo…

“There was such a backlash when we explicitly raised the issue of ID cards, that we have to do it sneakily by pretending it's about protecting kids.”

Translation: No social media platform should get a free pass when it comes to disseminating news and information that we can't control. This has f-all to do with kids.
  • @deandobbs Dean Dobbs on x
Yeah, once again, doing everything except the things he said he would do. This is a waste of time and tax payers money. All it does is restrict young people from communicating. Keir, one of your buddies was on the files. You have no right to be doing any of this.

Labour “logic”: 15-year-olds aren't old enough to to use a VPN or social media. ❌ 16-year-olds are old enough to vote. ✅

We actually exist in a world where the people who associate with Satanic pedophile cannibals lecture us about protecting children.
  • @james7holland James Holland on x
Particularly galling of this current elite to try to restrict our freedoms online in the name of “protecting the kids” when one considers how little they did or are doing for Epstein's child victims. Perhaps it has nothing to do with protecting kids..
  • @joshhousden Josh Housden on x
How do you explain to someone that they're old enough to vote but not old enough to use a VPN
  • @drbenspencer Dr Ben Spencer on x
Where @KemiBadenoch and the @conservatives have led, the Prime Minister is now following. But he can't quite bring himself to say that he supports our plans for a ban on social media for under 16s. We'll keep on campaigning for action. Watch this space - we'll get there.
